PERPETRATED BY NAZIS WITH ITALY AS VICTIM. HUGE ISSUE OF FORGERIES BY REICHSBANK. (Received This Day, 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, October 26. The Germans have , 'circulated 50,000,060 forged lire notes in Italy, says the “Sunday Express.” The Reichsbank last May printed an issue of this amount for :the ißank of Italy and then printed a further 50,000,000 duplicates. The first forged note appeared in Sicily, where a Luftwaffe officer gave a shopkeeper a thousand lire note, which he said was part of his pay. Hundreds of other forgeries have appeared and the Italians secured proof that the swindle was the work of the Reichsbank. Despite a visit of Italian missions to Berlin the Reichsbank denied knowledge of the forgery.
