SOLDER FROM WASTE
DISCOVERY BY SANITARY INSPECTOR. A valuable discovery has been made by Mr T. A. Russell, Borough Sanitary Inspector and a member of the local Reclamation of Waste Committee. Mr Russell has found that by melting down toothpaste and cosmetic tubes, solder of a particularly high quality is obtained. .Mr Russell demonstrated his findings to a “Times-Age” representative today. He stated that he had based his discovery on the belief that a high percentage of tin was mixed with the lead —an ideal combination for soldering purposes. He melted down some of the tooth paste and cosmetic tubes —a simple process on account of the low melting point of lead —skimmed eff the waste, and ran the liquid into a mould. The result was solder of a high commercial value.- Mr RusselP’was most enthusiastic over the possibilities of his finding. He said that he could sell it to the local plumbers at 2s 2d per lb. Mr Russell, asks, in view of this particular use for the tubes, that all such articles should be carefully saved.
