ALFREDTON
PATRIOTIC SOCIETY GAMES NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Patriotic Society’s fortnightly games night was held on Saturday evening. The winners at euchre were: Ladies, Mrs Hall and Miss Doyle (equal) 1; men, Mr H. Kebbell and Mr R. Low (equal) 1. A competition for two pairs of baby’s bootees and cap, donated by Mrs Graham, was won by Mr E. Ancheson and realised 15s 3d. A competition for six cups and saucers was won by Mrs Algie and realised £2 3s. The following goods were auctioned by Mr R. Kebbell: Two sponge cakes (donated by Mrs H. Percy) realised 17s; honey sponge (donated by Miss Thomas), 10s; fruit' cake (donated by Mrs J. McDonald), 13s; flowers (donated by Mrs George), 6s 6d; crayfish (donated by Mr T. Smith), 18s. A letter of thanks was read from Trentham camp for periodicals supplied by the Alfredton Patriotic Committee. It was decided to donate £2O to the Levin Air Force to provide comforts for the Women’s Auxiliary. A donation of £1 was received from Mr J. McKay and 10s from “a grateful dairy woman.” A letter of thanks and appreciation was read from Leading Aircraftman Dion Kebbell for the presentation which he received. Leading Aircraftman Kebbell is in training in Canada. The total sum realised during the evening was £ll 16s 9d. The hostesses were Mesdames J. McDonald, C. Walker and Dickens. Mr Heckler took the opportunity of expressing his pleasure in receiving 10s from “a grateful dairy woman.” The money is to be spent on the annual calf-judging competitions. School Fund. A very successful dance was held on Thursday evening last, in aid of the local school fund. The music was supplied by Messrs K. Marenzi and D. Thompson. A salad set donated for competition by Mr F. Johnson was won by Mi’ H. Burch. Half a sheep donated by Mr J. McKay was won by Mr J. McKay. Supper was provided by the ladies of the district. Messrs J. McKay and H. Burch carried out the duties of M’s.C. Persona! Items. Miss Joan Rolls spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. Rolls. Miss K. Smith has returned to Wellington after having spent a few days with her parents, Mr and Mrs T. Smith.
