MOTOR FATALITY

VAN CRASHES INTO CREEK

ARMY OFFICER KILLED.

FOUR OTHER PERSONS INJURED

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day., A well-known army officer, Captain Beveridge, was killed and two men and two ladies injured when a service van left the road, careered across a culvert and landed upside down in a ten-feet deep creek -near the junction of Spur Road and the AshhurstPohangina highway shortly before 12.30 o’clock this morning. The vehicle, which had been proceeding towards Palmerston North, was discovered by three people passing along the road and they immediately communicated with the police in Palmerston North.

In response to a telephone message the police, accompanied by Dr Hun-ter-will, immediately motored to the scene of the tragedy, where medical attention was rendered, and two ambulances summoned. The injured occupants were conveyed to the Palmerston North Public Hospital. The deceased Captain Beveridge was a resident of Wellington, and was stationed at the military camp at the Showgrounds, and it is assumed that the men are also from that camp. No details were available at a late hour this morning as to the identity or the extent' of the injuries sustained by the passengers; but it is known that the driver of the car, a sergeant, escaped uninjured.
