ART CLUB

ADDRESS ON ENGRAVING. A most interesting and instructive lecture was given by Mr S. B. Maclennan, A.R.C.A., at the Masterton Art Club meeting last evening on “engraving.” There was a fair attendance of members. The speaker was introduced by Mr A. Clemas, the president, who occupied the chair. Dealing with the subject from its inception, Mr Maclennan traced the development of the various phases of engraving, explaining and demonstrating the different processes as he proceeded. WooWmts, line engravings, Steppee engravings, etchings, mezzotints, aquatints and lithographs were all instructively dealt with. The lecture was illustrated with many beautiful examples of the various types of engraving, tracing the history of the art from the woodcuts of the block-book period of the early fifteenth century. In moving a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker, the chairman remarked that the club was greatly indebted to Mr Maclennan for his most informative address and that the lecture had been of definite benefit to those privileged to hear it.
