FLIGHT OF BOMBERS

ACROSS SOUTH ATLANTIC TO BRITAIN & MIDDLE EAST. USEFUL ALTERNATIVE ROUTE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m.) LONDON, October 16. Some American bombers are now being ferried to the Middle East and Britain via Florida, the West Indies, British Guiana and Brazil, said Major-General Brett, who has returned from a tour of the Middle East. The bombers are flown across the South Atlantic to centres on the West African coast, from which they can be flown, via Gibraltar, to Britain, or across Africa to Cairo. The southern route to Britain takes about eight days, compared with twelve hours by the direct northern route, but the weather on the northern route is not always favourable, whereas in the South Atlantic weather does not interfere.
