EKETAHUNA
BOROUGH AFFAIRS MEETING OF COUNCIL. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council was held last night, there being present, the Mayor (Mr W. Olsen), Councillors R. Gallagher, M. W. Priest, D. D. Ryan, E. M. Simmers, K. D. Marenzi and P. SPage. The Clerk reported as follows on the borough finances: —District fund account, dr., £3lO Ils sd; Domain account, dr., £2 17s sd; rate arrears, £515 15s 2d; cemetery arrears, £7; library arrears, £l. The following building permit was issued: W. G. Waterreus, High Street, sawmill, £lOO.
The Mayor stated that it was-pleas-ing to note the continued good health of the borough. It was some years since an adverse report had been received.
An invitation was received from the Fire Brigade to attend a Gold Star presentation gathering to be tendered Secretary S. Daniel. " The Masterton County Council forwarded a cheque for £4B 7s 9d being the council’s share of the heavy traffic licence allocated for the second quarter.
It was decided to grant W. Ure a lease of trapping rights on the borough’s waterworks reserve for a period of five years. The Minister of Public Works wrote advising that the Department could not see its way clear to grant a subsidy in respect to damage at the waterworks intake. Personal Items. Mrs W. F. Taylor, secretary-manager of the Tararua Power Board, is confined to his home through illness. Mrs C. McLaughlin, Lower Hutt, is visiting her sister, Mrs H. M. Simpson, Rongokokako.
