FEATHERSTON
CHARGE OF THEFT PROBATION FOR ACCUSED. (“Times-Age” Special.) Charged with the theft of a cash box contents, to a value of £l6 3s 4d, at Featherston on August 22, George Alfred Young, Wellington, labourer, appeared before Messrs C. Ritchie and N. Shepherd, J’s.P., in the Magistrates’ Court, Featherston, yesterday. A plea of guilty was entered. Accused was convicted and admitted to two years’ probation and ordered to make restitution. Eight cheques in the cash box to a total value of £l6O were not negotiated and were therefore not included in the charge.
The police case was conducted ' by Detective-Sergeant W. Kane, of Masterton.
Hon)e Guard.
A. parade of the Home Guard was held at the Drill Hall on Tuesday under Commander’ Hayes when useful work was carried out under Instructor J. Buck and Sergeant Instructor Halpin. Platoon Commander J. Johnson and Platoon Commander Carter delivered interesting lectures. The recently appointed area adjutant, Captain R. Lee, and his two staff warrant officers will give instruction to a class of Lower Valley officers and N.C.O’s. at Featherston next month.
Golf Club.
The final 9-hole eclectic competition was played at the Gum Grove links yesterday, the result being: —Mrs Elbe, 1; . Mrs Gold, 2; Mrs Feast, 3. The winner of the competition is Mrs Elbe. The ladies will close the season on Saturday. Hotel Burglary. Sometime during Tuesday night thieves entered the Empire Hotel and stole a considerable quantity of liquor and some change which was in the till. Entrance was made by boring holes in the door and then lifting the bolts. Fellowship of Youth. The Fellowship of Youth held a gathering on Tuesday evening when a very happy time was spent in playing table tennis, etc.
