“plunket society COMMITTEE MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a meeting of the committee of the local Plunket Society there were present: Mesdames Blundell (in the chair), Tyler, Sievers, Raper, Blathwayt, Knell, Chapman, Arthur, Griffiths, Kershaw, Mason, Perry and Miss M. C, Martin (secretary). A motion of condolence was passed with Mesdames J. McLeod, W. B. Martin, and G. Hardy. Mesdames Blundell and Kershaw were appointed delegates to the conference to be held in Wellington on October 15. It was decided to hold the annual Plunket sale in November. The following stall-holders were appointed: — Produce: Mesdames Chapman, Ward, Hewitt, and Miss C. McLeod. Cakes: Mesdames Kershaw, McConnell, Sievers, Griffiths, Hutton, and Morrison. Christmas gifts: Mesdames W. B. Martin, Pain, Baker, J. A. McLeod, G. .Hardy and A. Warren. Miscellaneous: Mesdames Perry, W. B. Martin, D. Cameron, A. D. McLeod, and Blathwayt. Surprise packets: Mesdames Knell and Arthur. Tea: Mesdames Blundell, Mason, Tyler, _ Ronalds, Raper, and Miss M. C. Martin. GARDEN CIRCLE COMPETITION WINNERS. The monthly meeting of the Garden Circle was held at Mrs C. W. Skill’s residence, where there was a fair attendance of members, Mrs A. Tyler presided. Garden hints were exchanged. The competitions resulted as follow: —Best bloom: Mrs Yates, 1; Mrs Prussing, 2; Mesdames Thomas and Prussing, equal, 3. Shrubs: Mesdames Boyd and Skill, equal, 1. Emergency Precautions. A meeting of controllers under the Emergency Precautions Act was held ‘in the Borough Council Office. Mr C. R. Holmes .(Mayor) was in the chair. Each control was discussed and finalised, and places of meeting in cases of emergency arranged. ■ The signal for notifying the town was left in the Mayor’s hands to arrange. It is proposed to hold a trial night so that those engaged in carrying out the regulations may. familiarise themselves with their duties.
