WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

SOLWAY-MANAIA MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Sol-way-Manaia Women’s Institute Mrs Diamond presided. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Lepper, Taylforth, McMichael, Cotton, Sinclair and McAlister. The roll call, “What I learnt from Miss Cocks-Johnston,” brought forth some very good hints, and also a fair collection of pennies as a number of members were unable to attend her lectures. Members of the Institute have added fifty more articles to their list for the Red Cross Society. These have been forwarded to the proper quarter. The play reading by the Dram Circle caused much amusement. The characters were taken by Mesdames Church, Renall, Wollett, Foster, Thompson, McGovern. The competitions resulted as follows: Best flower, Mrs Munn 1, Mrs Foster 2, Mrs Webber 3. Spring flowers, Mrs Wollett 1. Mrs Munn 2, Mrs Catherall, Senr., 3; cooking, Pikelets, Mrs Cornick 1, Mrs Munn 2, Mrs Diamond 3; sewing, child’s frock, Mrs Carr 1, Mrs Sutherland, Senr., 2, Mrs Foster 3, adults size, Miss Russell 1.
