RACING CLUB MEETING OF STEWARDS. (&&£* J (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club was held at the Club’s office, Featherston, yesterday, Mr J. W. Card (president), presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Capt. D. H. S. Riddiford, M.C., and Mr Percy Tilson. Mr J. W. Card was re-elected chairman of the stewards. The programme for the New Year meeting, show the amount of the stakes being £3475, was presented and approved. The following sub-committees were appointed: —Course, Messrs A'. Campbell Pearce, C. J. Nix, W. Howard Booth, Roy Donald and J. G. Donald. Finance, Messrs J. W. Card, D. H. S. Riddiford, R. N. Barton and H. Lawton. Programme, Messrs J. W. Card, D. H. S. Riddiford, R. N. Barton, Roy Donald and H. Lawson. Entertaining, Messrs W. J. Martin, D. Cameron, T. Benton, J. W. Card, A. Campbell Pearce, J. F. Thompson and D. H. S. Riddiford.. Catering,. Messrs W. Howard Booth, A. Campbell Pearce and J. F. Thompson. Beautifying, Messrs W. J. Martin, D.H. S. Riddiford, W. Howard Booth and chairman of course committee. At the start, Messrs R. A. Receipts since the last meeting were reported to’have amounted to £2BO 19s. Accounts passed for payment totalled £5B 4s Bd. PLUNKET SOCIETY ■ MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Plunket Society committee was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs Bloxam was in the chair. Also present were Mesdames A. S. Kilsby, R. Donald, J. S. Donald, E. M. Wakely, and G. Yule. Apologies were received from Mesdames Q. Donald, J. G. McKenzie, Arch. Clark, G. S. Sharp, E. M. Shepherd, R. S. Keenan and J. E. Willett. One new member’ was elected. The receipts since the last meeting totalled £3 18s lid. It was reported that there was a credit balance at the bank of £520 9s 9d. Accounts amounting to £6 5s 6d were passed for payment. The nurse’s report was read and was considered satisfactory. Remits for the annual conference l in Wellington on October 15 and 16 were approved. Home Guard. The Featherston Home Guard paraded on Tuesday evening. The first half hour was spent in physical drill and then company drill and rifle exercises were held for half an hour. Caplain Carter (Battalion Commander) gave a talk concerning the defence area and what the company was expected to do in an emergency. Miniature Rifles Club. The following were the highest scores recorded in the weekly competition of the Featherston Miniature Rifle Club:—B. Williams,. 100; M. Hodder, 99; L. T. Benton, 97; E. O’Neale, 96; A. Viles, 95; K. McKenzie, and I. Feast, 94; A. McNamara, 93; A. Hodder, 90. Personal. Mrs Charles Jukes, Napier, is the guest of Mr and Miss Card.
