HAWKE’S BAY MEETING CHIEF EVENT TO RED CAT. TRAVANCORE WINS 2-YEAR-OLD RACE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HASTINGS, October 2. The weather was fine and mild for ( the opening day of the Hawke’s Bay - spring races and the going in excellent order. Mr D. McA. Duncan’s bracket, , Red Cat and Taurangi, ran first and second in the main handicap and Rakahanga, who has built up into a solid mare, scored a meritorious win in the open sprint. Taurangi was improved with her sprint at Levin and ran a fine race under 9.6, pulling up well, L. M. Lewis, rider of Summons, who fell at the last fence in the hurdle race, was taken to hospital for observation.
