MARTINBOROUGH
BOY SCOUTS NEW COMMITTEE ELECTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a meeting of parents and friends held in connection with the local Boy Scout movement a new committee was elected as follows: —Mesdames Blaihwayt, Coutts, Sadd, Mills, Knell and Messrs Blathwayt (chairman), Neald (secretary), Yates, Cotter and Sadd. Scoutmaster C. R. Foreman reported that during the 12 months he had acted as Scoutmaster the Troop had gradually consolidated, and the present strength was 30 Scouts and 26 Cubs. He stressed the importance of Scouting today, and the useful work that Scouts were able to accomplish under the E.P.S., of which they were a unit. The co-operation of parents was necessary and he was glad of this opportunity of meeting them. Mr Wadsworth, the Martinborough Bandmaster, stated that the band had diminished to the extent that he was making arrangements to disband it, when the Scoutmaster suggested that rather than that should happen, would he agree to join with the Scouts and make it a Scout Band. The Band Committee was agreeable to this course. The new committee passed a motion in favour of this scheme. Votes of thanks were passed to those who had shown interest in the troop, including Mrs W. B. Martin, Miss Hibberd (who had been active in acquiring the building used as a Scout Den), Mrs Coutts, Messrs Cotter, Feist, Michel, Thomas and Hardinge. It was reported that with the aid of various donations a small gymnasium had been constructed by the Scoutmaster. A valuable donation 'had been a piano given by Mrs Harrington.
