. . LATE MR K. N. SAYWELL MEMORIAL SERVICE AND FUNERAL. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a large congregation at the Featherston Presbyterian Church yesterday afternoon ■when a short memorial service was conducted by the Rev. R. S. Keenan in memory of the late Mr Kenneth Nelson Saywell, who died on Sunday. The funeral took place at the Featherston Cemetery where Mr Keenan conducted the burial service. The pall-bearers were Messrs R. W. Matthews, J. Catt, ' W. Gregor, Eglinton, Draper (Wellington) and Janson. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by relatives and friends and mourners were present from all parts of the district.HAUNUICROQUET CLUB OPENING OF SEASON. The Haunui Croquet Club experienced very favourable weather, yesterday afternoon tor the opening of the season. Miss Eva Card (president) extended a welcome to those present and called upon the patroness (Mrs D. H. S. Riddiford) to open the lawns. In the course of her speech, Mrs Riddiford said: “How lucky we are in this country to be able to enjoy sport and we could thank God and the British Navy that we are able to do so.” In declaring the season open she wished the club a successful time. The croquet competitions were won by the following:—Golf, Mrs Baker; ladder, Mrs Thompson; French, Mrs Riddiford. The prizes were presented by Miss Eva Card. Afternoon tea was served in the pavilion. The tables were beautifully decorated by Miss Esma Card. Posies were presented to Mrs Riddiford and Miss Card. Fellowship of. Youth. The Fellowship of Youth gathering last night was well attended. A happy time was spent in games and competitions. During the evening the Rev. J. R. Higgs gave an interesting talk on China. Headworks Washed Away. Last Friday the headworks of the Featherston-Longwood Water Race was washed away owing to the heavy flooding of the Tauherenikau Rivei. Workmen started today to repair the damage, and it will be at least 3 oi 4 days before the races are again running at their normal rates. Persona! Items. Mr J. E. Willett left today for Waiouru Camp to undergo 3 months territorial training. Mrs Payne, Masterton, is relieving m the staff of the primary school till the end of the year. In Aid of Patriotic Funds. Mr George Gain has donated a pig to the Women’s War Service Auxiliary Garden Circle, the members of which intend to dispose of it in aid of the funds for patriotic purposes.
