WOMEN’S INSTITUTE EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Women’s Institute held a most successful euchre party and dance on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance despite the unfavourable weather. Competitions were won by Mrs Lovegrove and Mr H. Matakatea (Monte Carlo dance), Miss Nancy McIntosh and Mr D. Watson (chocolates) and Mr J. Taurau (dinner). Mrs McKenzie and Mr W. Taylor were winners of the card games, the second prizes going to Mrs Taylor and Mr Beech, respectively. The dance music was supplied by a local orchestra and Mr S. Mclntosh was M.C. WEDDING TILSON—HANCOX. A quiet wedding was celebrated recently between members of two wellknown families of the Wairarapa. The bride was Miss Jessie Hancox, daughter of Mr and Mrs Hancox, of Raukokoputuna, Martinborough, and granddaughter of the late Mr Simon Campbell, and the bridegroom was lan, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. H. (“Tui”) Tilson, of Pirinoa, and grandson of the late Mr and Mrs John Gillies. Mr and Mrs Tilson will take up their residence in this district. Shearing. It was expected that shearing in this district would commence this week. However, the weather at the weekend was most unfavourable. Good Catches of Whitebait. Good catches of whitebait have been made recently at the Lake Ferry. Tuhitarata Jersey Cattle. The Tuhitarata Jersey Stud, owned by Mr J. Jameson, of Masterton, and managed by Mr Dave Leitch, scored some outstanding successes at the recent Waikato Show. Some of the stock which were offered at auction brought splendid prices. This stud has in recent years achieved meritorious results in the principal show rings of the Dominion. At the recent Waikato Show the stock from Tuhitarata Jersey Stud gained the following successes: First and junior championships reserve; class results (two-year-old class), first; yearlings (first.class), 1 and 3; first in fourth class and third in group. Mr Dave Leitch is to be congratulated on the manner in which he has produced the stock which are widely known throughout the Dominion. The Stud has only been in existence for a few years. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Beech and Mr and Mrs Wilson, Trentham, were the guests of Mr and Mrs Marshall, Waitapu, over the weekend. Mr G. C. Holmes, Te Hopai, has returned from Paraparaumu. Mr and Mrs Mackie were visitors to Pirinoa at the weekend.
