MARTINBOROUGH

LADIES’ HOCKEY CLUB ENJOYABLE DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) An enjoyable time was spent at the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Saturday night, when members of the ladies’ hockey club held a dance at which there was a large attendance. During the evening presentations were made to Mr C. W. Skill and Mr A. E. Wilton, referee and coach, respectively. Mesdames S. Chapman, Beveridge and Blackwell were presented with posies in appreciation of the help given to the club during the season. Fire in Storeroom. On Saturday morning a fire was discovered in a storeroom at the Tiri Hospital. The brigade was promptly on the spot but found a very poor pressure of water, as some repairs had been in progress at the headworks during the day. Working under difficulties the firemen were able to confine the outbreak to the storeroom, and save the main building. The loss is confined to the small building and its contents. Bowling. On Saturday next the local Bowling Club will open its green for the season. It is expected that representatives of all the Wairarapa clubs will be present. Given fine weather the green, should be in capital order. Golf. The best cards in a bogey handicap held by the Martinborough Ladies’ Golf Club wore: —Mrs Charles, 2 down; Miss Harvey, 4 down; Miss Martin, 10 down.
