RANGITUMAU

WELCOME HOME / L./CPL. W. D. McLACHLAN HONOURED. • ; (“Times-Age” Special.) The Rangitumau Hall was crowded on Saturday night, when the settlers of the district and many visitors gathered to welcome home Lance-Corporal W. D. (“Wray") McLachlan, who recently re- ' turned to New Zealand after having spent a long period ip Egypt as a member of the First Echelon. The large gathering testified to the esteem in which the guest is held by the residents of the district. The time was spent in dancing to music supplied by Mr Arnold Barnes, and under the supervision of the M.C., Mr L. W. Wilton, proceedings went with a swing. Messrs D. C. Stuart and W. F. McLaren spoke briefly. Mr Stuart, referred to the excellent personal qualities of Lance-Corporal McLachlan, and expressed regret that their guest had suffered ill-health. On behalf of those present he extended a warm welcome to Lance-Corporal McLachlan. Mr McLaren spoke on similar lines. LanceCorporal McLachlan was presented with a’well-filled wallet, on behalf of the residents of the district. In acknowledging the presentation and the sentiments expressed, LanceCorporal McLachlan gave an interesting account of some of his experiences overseas. He was accorded musical honours. Supper was served by the ladies.
