HOME GUARD SYLLABUS OF TRAINING., (“Times-Age” Special.) The next weekly parade of the Carterton Company will be held in the King’s Theatre on Tuesday. The Signal Section under Platoon Commander E. Smith will, as usual, parade at the State Theatre. The following Guardsmen are posted to the Second Division: Sergeant R. R. Barrett, Corporal D. J. Irwin, Private B. Roberts. The following Guardsmen marched cut of the Company: B. J. J. Goodin, ito Featherston, K. King to Territorials. ' JNo. 4 Platoon and any Guardsmen /from other platoons, who have not '. completed the “aiming” and “aiming off” tests are to proceed to Hughan’s garage to complete the same. Nos. 1, 2 and 3 platoons will complete their tests and arms and squad drill at the Platoon Commanders’ discretion. As this is the last parade during September all Guardsmen who have not completed all tests including “aiming” and “aiming off” are urged to make a special effort to attend. GOLF CLUB MEN’S TOURNAMENT. The tournament held on the Carterton links on Saturday and Sunday resulted in good entries being received and excellent competition. The final for the championship was between H. Dudson (Carterton) and B. Kiernan (Greytown) in which the former proved the winner. The first flight. competition resulted in C.- K. Goodin beating J. Dwane and the second flight;competition was won by T. Gold (Grey town) from W. Knowles (Carterton). The medal competition resulted: —B. Feast, 71, 6, 65, 1; B. Kiernan, 71, 4, 67, 2. J. Dewhirst won- the bogey competition 2 up against W. Knowles all square, 2. The Stableford competition resulted:—G. Te Whaiti (Greytown), 20, 14, 34, 1; R. Fisher and M. Knowles (Carterton), were equal for second place with 30, 3, 33, and 20, 13, 33, respectively. LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIPS. The following are the results of the golf matches played on Saturday by lady members of the Carterton Golf Club:— )• Senior championship: Mrs Murray ,_seat Miss Berrill; Mrs Colson defeated jjlrs Harrington. Junior championship: Mrs Johansen beat Mrs Robinson; Miss Smart beat Miss I. Corlett. WAIRARAPA GUN CLUB HADLEY & SONS CUP. At the Wairarapa Gun Club’s meeting held at Norfolk Road, Waingawa, at the weekend., the 25-bird match for the Hadley and Sons Cup was won by F. Allen (Masterton) after a shoot off with T. Brown, both breaking 21 “clays” cut of 25. , £1,000,000 Appeal. The local effort in connection w.ith the £1,000,000 appeal is now practically closed and the following are the amounts raised: Carterton Borough, £533 14s 8d; Dalefield, £lB3 5s 8d; Gladstone, £162; Parkvale, £94 16s sd; Belvedere, £75 17s; Waihakeke, £7O 4s 6d; Ponatahi-Ahiaruhe, £3l 19s 6d; West Taratahi, £l3 13s; Kokotau, £ll Ils 6d; East Taratahi, £lO 15s 6d; Carrington, £9 2s 6d; Art Union, £/9 3s; Gala Day, £B3B Ils 7d; Total, £2114 15s 4d. Heavy Hailstorm. In the early hours of Sunday morning a heavy hailstorm passed over Carterton and as a result the weather on Sunday was bitterly cold. Personal Items. The condition of Mr H. T. Leete, who is in the Greytown Hospital, has very much improved. Mrs L. Smith, of Timaru, is the guest of Mrs E. M. Gayfer, Rhodes Street, Carterton. Private J. C. Tilyard, who spent weekend leave in Carterton, returned to Waiouru Camp today.
