WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Al a meeting of the committee of the local Women’s Institute, the president (Mrs Spicer) presided. The programme for the next three months was finally arranged. Several members signified their intention of being present at the conference at Carterton on October 17. Personal Items. Mr Neil Hume has returned to Ali’redton after having attended the funeral of the late Mr R. Murphy. Mr E. Taurau, who was on a visit to Dannevirke, has returned home. Miss L. Hutchison, who has been in indifferent health for some time, is improving. Mr Simpson, who was staying at the Lake Ferry, has returned to Wellington.

The death occurred in the Greytown Hospital of Mr Richard Murphy at the age of 73 years. The deceased, who was a member of a well-known Featherston family, had lived for the past forty years in this district, a greater part of the time being spent as an employee of the Estate of the late William Hume. He had been in failing health for some time. Mr Murphy was very popular with local residents. He was a keen sportsman, an enthusiastic cricketer and in the early years of the local Golf Club was one of its foremost members. The funeral took place at Featherston and was attended by a large number of local residents.
