UPPER PLAIN
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute held at the home of Mrs Clements, Mrs G. Dagg presided over a good attendance. Mrs F. Clarke was elected treasurer in succession of Miss Fay Cohen, who is leaving the district. Mrs Mannell gave an interesting demonstration on smocking, some beautiful children’s dresses being displayed with smocking on the yokes. The competitions resulted as follows: —Scones: Mrs W. Taplin, 1; Mrs G. Laing, 2. Shortbread: Mrs Tankersley, 1; Mrs G. Laing, 2. Best bloom: Mrs W. Taplin, 1; Mrs J. Rettie, 2. After the serving of afternoon tea by the hostesses, Mrs Tankersley and Thomas, the meeting was brought to a close.
