COSY THEATRE
“BALALAIKA
Intense drama, rampant comedy and spectacle are happily harmonised in “Balalaika.” The gay Russia of the Czars, exciting moments of the Revolution, brief flashes from the World War, and Paris, where exiled Russian nobles became cooks, waiters, entertainers and chauffeurs, from the varied locales of the story. The interest, however, is centered on the romance and adventures of Prince Karagin and Lydia through one of the most exciting chapters in world history, with the music aimed to satisfy both lovers of opera and more popular melodies. Highlighted is a dramatic presentation of “Silent Night.” recreating a memorable incident from the World War. It is sung by Nelson Eddy and a chorus as it was on a Christmas night when .Russian and Austrian soldiers faced each other across No Man's Land. The picture will be shown tonight.
