WOMEN’S INSTITUTE COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Pirinoa Women’s Institute there was a good attendance over, which Mrs Spicer presided.

Mesdames Marshall and Tilson were oppointed delegates to attend a conference at Carterton next month. It was decided to donate £1 towards the funds of the Makogai Leper Mission. The competition for the “prettiest nightdress’’ was won by Mrs H. Gaudin, with Mrs T. Hume second. The' junior competition for the best sponge was won by Miss N. Mclntosh with Miss D. Priest second. The prize for the best bloom was won by Mrs H. Gaudin, with Mrs Atkinson second. Parcels for boys from the district overseas were prepared ready for sending away. i The hostesses were Mesdames Warren, Mclntosh Junr., and Atkinson. Personal Items. Residents of the district will be pleased to learn that Private Harold Wilton, who was posted as missing in operations in Greece, is now reported to be a prisoner of war. Mrs D. S. Sutherland, Waihora, is visiting relatives in the South Island. Advice has been received from the Middle East by relatives of Private Jim Thorner that he is in good health. Mr W. P. Charteris, who has been manager of the Whatarangi Station, Palliser Bay, for some years, has left for the Trentham Camp. Mrs Matakatea, who has been visiting relatives here, has returned to Wangaehu. Sergeant O. Todd, Trentham Military Camp, spent the weekend with his brother, Mr C. Todd.

Whitebait. Although the weather recently has been unfavourable for big “catches,” whitebait are now being netted in fairly large quantities. Palliser Bay Road.

It is understood that tenders are being called for the work of clearing the debris on the Palliser Bay Road.
