FOOTBALL CLUB SUCCESSFUL FIELD DAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Featherston Football Club held' a very successful field day oh the Recreation grounds on Saturday. The weather was perfect and there was a good attendance of the public. As a result the Red Cross Society will benefit to the extent of about £B.. The following were the results of the competitions: — Football match, Married 6, Single 3; 75yds carrying a football (Sunalo trophy). J. Cross; 75 yds ladies’ race (Mr Long’s trophy), Miss M. Algie; 880yds handicap (Mr J. Mor.oney’s trophy), S. Morris 1, Watson and Co’s trophy second prize, J. Towsey; drop kick (club cup), M. Mahupuka; place kick, trophy donated by H. Cundy, J. Cross; Wairarapa football clubs' relay championship (Black and White cup), Featherston A 1; 100yds championship, J. Towsey 1; long jump, hop, step and jump (Lett’s Service Store trophy), Mahupuka 1; committeemen’s race, R. Lett 1, F. Brough 2; cake guessing (prize donated by Mrs Neville), L. H. Higginson; stepping the distance ( 1 bag coal donated by Tait and McKenzie), C. Pike 1.
A feature of the gathering was the announcing of the events and a running commentary made by Mr Talbot. About 60 members were present at the smoke concert held in the evening: Mr J. Donald presiding. Mr J. Buck and Mr C. Paterson presided at the piano.
The Lett Cup presented for the best player on and off the field was won by S. Morris.
Mr K. Reid thanked the Featherston Club for the assitance they had given the Wairarapa Rugby Union this season by providing free, ticket sellers, gate keepers, etc. Ide also stated that Featherston headed the other clubs in connection with gate takings in club matches during the season. He congratulated the club on obtaining such rAhigh position in the championships. Mr Donald spoke on training durin?, the season and paid a tribute to the excellent assistance given by Mr Perry. About 80 tickets were taken in the sheep guessing competition. The sheep were donated by Mr J. Donald. Service of Prayer. There was a good attendance at J b' Cit’zens’ Service of Prayer held in •’m / nmo Hall last evening. The Girl Guide - . Fire Brigade and Home Guard, n-.h-ci. The Rev. R. S. Keen: nv. n~ chairman and Mr Haymon led th-p-ayers. An interesting address wa c given by the Rev. J. R. Higgs, who c poke on the “V” sign. Golf. were: H. Eloxam 87-12-75: T M'•Callum 95-9-86: S. Hoby 103-15-88. The final of the junior championship' resulted in a win for H. McCarty, who beat H. Lovegrove. The following is the draw for the handicap competition for Mr W. Jeffrey’s trophy: W. Jeffrey v H. Bloxam; T. Lang v L. Benton; D. Carlyon v J. Card; R. Donald v J. Willett; A. McNamara v J. McCallum.
