CARTERTON

DANCE AT PARKVALE (“Times-Age” Special.) There was an exceptionally large attendance at the final dance held by the Parkvale Patriotic Committee in the district hall on Saturday evening and a most enjoyable time was spent. The aim of the committee to obtain £6O as a patriotic effort was reached. The supper room was occupied by euchre players; The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s Orchestra, and much appreciated extras were played by Mrs C. K. Goodin, Messrs V. Sorensen and M. Herrick and Mr Gordon Challis. Mr Dan Jensen was an efficient M.C. Supper was provided and one of the most enjoyable dances ever held in the district was brought to a close at midnight. Bowling Club. A working bee of members of the Carterton Bowling Club carried out further improvements on the green on Saturday. The season will be opened for play next month. Bank Holiday. Today being Dominion Day, the trading banks are observing it as a holiday. Mrs M. Hurley, of Clareville, has found it necessary to enter the Masterton Hospital for treatment. The death occurred at Wanganui, on Friday last of Mrs Martha Cave, wife of Mr T. M. Cave. The late Mrs Cave was well known in Carterton’ where she lived for many years. She was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Woodley, who were well known residents of Carterton. The late Mrs Cave is survived by her husband and a family of three sons and a daughter. Two of the sons are with the fighting forces overseas. She is also survived by brothers and sisters resident in Carterton, Masterton and other parts of Wairarapa. Golf.

Owing to members being at Middle Run on Saturday there were not many players on the links. The best cards handed in for a stableford competition were: H. Dudson 33-3-36; C. K. Goodin 29-6-35.

The following are the results of the senior and junior championship games played on Saturday:—Mrs Harrington beat Mrs Moroney; Mrs Murray beat Mrs Callander; Miss Berrill beat Miss Campbell; Mrs Robinson beat Miss Armstrong; Mrs Johansen beat Miss Booth; Miss Smart beat Miss Peters; Miss I. Corlett beat Mrs Court.
