CHURCH SERVICES
Special Patronal Festival services will mark St. Matthew’s Day at St. Matthew’s Church tomorrow. The Holy Communion will be celebrated at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., Archdeacon Rich being the preacher. A musical service will be held at 7 p.m. The Rev. H. Taepa will conduct the service at Kuripuni at 7 p.m. The usual services will be held at Taueru, Rangitumau and Kopuaranga. A feature of the special services to be held in St. Matthew’s Church tomorrow will be the music. At evensong the choir will render the anthem, “Break Forth Into Joy” (Barnby), “Give Glory Unto God” (Simper), “And the Glory of the Lord” (Handel), and “How Lovely Are the Messengers” (Mendelssohn). Solos will be sung by Messrs Archer Hale, “0 Shining Light” (Adams), and by Seymour Gilding, “The King’s Message,” whilst a duet, “Hold Thou My Hand” (Briggs) will be rendered by Mrs J. Moss and Miss Rose Robinson. The choir will be under the direction of Mr William C. Mann, with Mr Miller Hope at the organ. Major and Mrs Dick will conduct “a day of questions” at the Salvation Army Hall tomorrow. At 11 a.m. the subject is “Tom, Tom, the Piper’s Son,” a nursery rhyme with Biblical applications. A vocal duet, “Jesus of Galilee,” will be sung. Mrs Major Dick will be the speaker. At 7 p.m. the subjects will be: “Is the Anti-Christ Alive Today?” “Are We Playing at Sixes and Sevens?” and “What Is Your Number?” Major Victor Dick will be the speaker. Vocal items will be given by Mrs D’Arcy Perry, Mrs Major Thomson and Miss J. Thomson, and the Singing Brigade. The Rev. John Davie will conduct the communion services tomorrow at the Masterton Presbyterian Church and at Matahiwi. The last community sing for the season will be held prior to the evening service.
The services at the Methodist Church tomorrow will be conducted by the Rev. H. S. Kings. The subject at the morning service will be “The Unconscious Glory,” and in the evening “A Known Guide on an Unknown Road.” The choir will attend the hospital at 4 o’clock for a choral service. There will be an afternoon service at Mt. Bruce. The Rey. G. KnowlesSmith (ex-president, Methodist Conference), will conduct the evening service at Kuripuni. At' the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church tomorrow “Spring Flewer Sunday” will be observed. The flowers will be subsequently sent to Masterton Hospital. The Rev. David McNeur will preach at the morning and evening services. His subjects will be “A Man’s Right to Own Land” and “The Birth of Flowers” respectively. A service will be held at Wangaehu at 2.30 o’clock. Two important subjects will be dealt with at tomorow’s services of the Bap-tist-Church of Christ. In the morning, Mr L. R. Usmar will state reasons for accepting the Bible as the word of God. His subject at night will be “The Resurrection of Jesus.” Thoughtful messages for thoughtful people! A hearty invitation is extended to all who desire to attend.
