EKETAHUNA
WOMEN’S DIVISION BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs T. Hancock presided over an excellent attendance at the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union. A committee meeting was held prior to the general meeting. The general meeting opened with the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem, followed by the creed and prayer. Several new members were welcomed by Mrs Hancock. A vote of condolence was passed to Mrs Albrechtsen in her recent bereavement. After business was dealt with a happy social afternoon was held to celebrate the branch's ninth birthday. Visitors from the Pahiatua and Rongomai branches were present. The immediate past president, Mrs C. Welch, Levin, was a visitor. She was presented with a shoulder spray by the president and accorded musical honours on her arrival. Mrs Welch returned thanks for the warm welcome accorded her. Mrs McAnulty, who mad.e the delightful sprays which were presented to the visitors and friends, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Miss A. Anderson presented Mrs Hancock with a beautiful posy. Much appreciated items were contributed by Mrs Hart (pianoforte solos), Misses M. Wilson and M. Smith (songs). Mrs M. Stone-Wigg, branch delegate to the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union conference, gave an able report on the proceedings and, received a hearty vote of thanks. A competition caused considerable merriment. Afternoon tea was served. Holding pride of place on the table was the surprise of the celebration, a beautiful birthday cake, m»ade by Mrs Faulkner and iced by Mrs Frazer. Mrs David. Crewe was called upon to light the nine candles and Mrs Gibson to extinguish them. Mesdames Faulkner and Welch cut the cake and pieces were distributed to all present. Afternoon tea was provided and served by the hostesses and the members. The president read birthday greetings from Mrs K. Groves (Masterton), Mrs Harris (Turakina), Eketahuna R.S.A., and Mrs W. Curry. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the donors of the cake.
A bring and buy stall was well patronised and the proceeds are being devoted towards the cost of blankets forwarded to the Mercantile Marine.
