NUMBER OF BILLS

YET TO COME BEFORE PARLIAMENT

STATEMENT BY. MINISTER

OF FINANCE.

UNABLE TO SAY WHEN SESSION

WILL END

(Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day

A formidable list of legislation still to be considered by the House of Representatives before the end of the present session of Parliament was given by the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, in the House yesterday, in response to an inquiry by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland. Mr Nash also, said he could not yet give any likely date for the end of the session.

Mr Holland asked for some indication of the business to be done before the end of the session. He said it appeared that according to the “coconut wireless” the session was rapidly drawing to a close. He also asked Mr Nash if he could name any dates of national importance. Mr Nash said that at this time all dates were of national importance, but he considered it impossible at the moment to give a date for the end of the session. Tht Standards Bill would be proceeded with when the House resumed next Tuesday afternoon. Other measures to appear were the Rehabilitation Bill, and Land and Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, the War Damages Bill, the Coalmines Amendment Bill! a technical measure), the Local Legislation Bill, the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill, the Statutes Amendmtnt Bill, another Finance Bill, and the Native Purposes Bill. In addition there might be one or two small measures, and there were also the Supplementary Estimates to be considered.

Interviewed later, Mr Nash said there was no significance in the fact that he had not mentioned the Social Security Amendment Bill. It was second on the order paper after the Standards Bill.

Replying to a further question concerning an Imprest Supply Bill, the Minister said that supply had been taken to the end of October, and presumably the session would end before then.
