EKETAHUNA

BOROUGH AFFAIRS MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council was held last night, there being present the Mayor (Mr W. Olsen), Councillors M. W. Priest, E. M. Simmers, K. D. Marenzi, R. B. Gallagher, P. S. Page, D. D. Ryan, and the clerk, Mr B. Dinnan. The clerk reported on the finances as follows: —District Fund Account, dr., £309 ss; Domain Account, dr,, £2; Rate Arrears, £515 15s 2d; Cemetery Arrears, £l2 8s; Library Arrears, 15s. Accounts amounting to £215 6s _2d were passed for payment. The following- building permit was issued during the month: Bank of New Zealand, renewing foundations, etc., to bank premises, value £97 10s. It was decided to give two Parkville residents 14 days’ notice to cut back hedges from the footpaths.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT HAMUA. Mrs S. H. Hobbs presided over an excellent attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Hamua Women’s Institute. A vote of sympathy with Mr and Mrs Austin and family in their recent bereavement was passed, members standing in silence for a few moments. The motto for the month was: “Spring comes when no one is looking; you may be lying in bed with a cold, in the head, or you may be cooking.” Mesdames Norman and Galvin, were appointed delegates to attend the halfyearly meeting of the Bush Federation at Konini, It was decided to forward a donation of 10s to the Makogai Leper Fund. A letter of thanks was received from the Navy League, for comforts supplied. Miss Hazel Johnson gave an interesting talk on nutrition and food values. The “mystery parcel" was won by Mrs Farrow, and the social competition by Mrs Humphrey. The competitions resulted as follows: —Decorated jam jar of spring bulbs, Mrs P. Davies 1, Mrs Humphrey 2. Best bloom, Mrs Farrow 1. Mrs Davies 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Farrow and Sorensen.
