POWER SUPPLY

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD INSTALLATION AND OTHER WORK. INCREASE IN CONNECTED LOAD. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board held at Carterton today, the Secretary-Man-ager, Mr George Brown, reported that the revenue for August, £6131, was a gain of £l3B on August of last year, but a decrease of £lOl on the estimate. For the first five months of the present financial year (April to August) the revenue, £30,755 was a gain of £1512 on the corresponding period of last year, but a decrease of £8 on the estimate. Difficulty was being experienced, with the reduced staff, in coping with installation work. During August, the connected load was increased by 237 k.w. The increase in units delivered during the month of August was just within the limits set by the electricity controller. Considering that the weather during August was very dull, wet and cold, this was satisfactory. The chief engineer, Mr H. B. Keenan, said that in the northern area 21 service connections were erected. In the central area 14 service connections were erected. A 500 watt street lighting lamp had been erected opposite the Gladstone store for Home Guard night training. In the southern area wet weather had delayed the general maintenance programme. “The position regarding the ‘changeover’ in Greytown installations is more satisfactory than for some time past. By a re-arrangement of staff, the elimination of re-inspection of installations in the central area and extra staff from Masterton area, we will complete all work signed up to date by September 30. This is as far as we can estimate, approximately only 75 per cent of the work available, so that we may see the last cf it by December,” said Mr Keenan.
