TENNIS CLUBS
MASTERTON AND MEMORIAL AMALGAMATION TO CONTINUE. ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. The amalgamation of the Masterton and Memorial Lawn Tennis clubs last season, resulting in the foundation of the United Lawn Tennis Club, was reviewed at the first annual meeting of the United Club held in Masterton last night. A resolution was passed which provided foi’ a further amalgamation for a period of 12 months. The president, Mr J. T. Jameson, presided over a good attendance of members representative of both clubs. Several apologies for absence’were received. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet Mr Jameson referred to the excellent results which had been achieved. The decision to amalgamate the clubs to form the leading club in the Wairarapa had been a happy one, he said. Mr E. M. Hodder urged the committee and members to conduct an energetic drive for new members. . Mr Jameson pointed out that the amalgamation of the clubs terminated on August 31 and members would have to decide whether the amalgamation should be continued. The following resolution was carried: “That, subject to confirmation, this meeting of the United Lawn Tennis Club, being representative of the Masterton and Memorial clubs resolves that amalgamation be carried on for a further period of 12 months.” The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr J. T. Jameson; vicepresidents, Messrs E. M. Hodder, C. K. Long; committee, Mrs Caldwell, Misses Payton, U. Holtham, Messrs W. L. Marchbank, P. Hawksworth, B. M. Hurley; hon. secretary, Mr C. J. Carle; hon. treasurer, Mr J. C. Corbishley; hon. auditor, Mi’ A. D. Low; club captain, Mr C. K. Long; delegates to Wairarapa Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs E. M. Hodder, P. Hawksworth, J. A. Kennedy. It was decided to officially open the season on October 25, with a Yankee tournament. Mr Hodder presented a trophy he mad donated for mid-week competition among the ladies to the winner, Mrs M. Jones. Mr Hodder, who was thanked for his generosity, intimated that he would present another trophy this f season. Appreciative reference was made to the work of the retiring secretary, Mr J. C. Corbishley, and the club captain, Mr Hodder. i It was decided to fix subscriptions as follow:—Men, £2 10s for seniors, £1 10s for juniors; ladies, £1 15s for seniors and £1 5s for juniors. In addition a levy of 4s per playing member, would be made for afternoon tea.
