INDOOR BASKETBALL

LADIES AT PLAY MASTERTON v. WELLINGTON. A DRAWN GAME. Last evening the Masterton ladies’ indoor basketball team journeyed to Wellington to play an exhibition game against a Wellington team. This game drew a large attendance and those present were treated to a good fast game. The Masterton team was the first to score and at the end of the first spell the score was Masterton 10, Wellington 6. In the second half the Wellington team put on a burst of speed and some excellent goals were scored by Miss N. Hobbs, and the spell ended Wellington 20,«Masterton 12. The third spell saw the game swing up and down the field for some time, and then the Masterton team showed their true form and scored six more goals to Wellington’s 2, and full time was called with the Masterton team dominating the game which ended in a draw, 24 goals each. The following are the details of the scoring;—Wellington: N. Hobbs 14, P. Graham 6, R. Taylor 2, A. Goulding 2. Other members of the team: S. Tong 0, M. Jessup 0. Masterton: J. Gemmell 10, J. Palmer 8, P. Hanley 6. Other players: C. Moylan, C. Wright, N. Page. The referees were Messrs H. Piper and D. Costello. After the game the two teams were entertained at supper by the Wellington Y.M.C.A. Basketball Committee at the Shingle Inn Cafe.
