CARTERTON SALE

NO DEMAND FOR EWES AND f LAMBS. PIGS MAKE LATE RATES. Messrs Wright. Stephenson and CoLtd., report as follows on the Carterton sale yesterday: —A fair entry of stock came forward. Several pens of fat sheep were offered but competition was not particularly keen. For the first time this season we offered a pen of ewes with b.f. lambs at foot, but there was no demand and they were passed in. Spring cows and heifers were of rather inferior quality and were not keenly sought after. Fat and forward, cows sold well. Pigs of all classes made late rates. Prices:— Sheep: Fat shorn wethers, to 235; light fat shorn wethers, to 19s 4d; fat woolly wethers, 28s to 29s 2d; light fat woolly wethers, to 255; fat woolly ewes, 16s 6d, 17s 3d to 18s 4d; 'fat woolly wether hoggets, to 26s 9d; fat b.f. hoggets, to 21s Id; woolly wether hoggets, to 19s. Cattle: Dairy cows on drop, £B. £9 15s, £lO, to £lO ss; springing dairy cows. £6, £7, £7 10s; Jersey heifers on drop, £7, £7 10s, £9, to £9 10s: springing Jersey heifers, £5 to .£6; fat cows, £5 to £6; forward cows, £4, £4 17s 6d; store cows, £3, £3 17s. Pigs: Baconers, £3 9s to £3 16s; porkers, £2 to £2 6s 6d; light porkers,' 35s to 38s; store pigs, 28s to 335; slips 24s to 275; weaners, 16s 6d to 245.
