WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

GLADSTONE MEETING. COMPETITION WINNERS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Gladstone Women’s Institute was held in the Gladstone Hall yesterday. Mrs Smith, in the unavoidable absence of Mrs Joblin, presided over a good attendance of members. Misses A. Bubb and M. Cooper were appointed as delegates to the forthcoming conference in Carterton. Miss Cocks Johnston gave an interesting lecture on “The Preservation of Fruit and Vegetables.” The competitions resulted as follows: Apple tart in saucer (short crust), Mrs Britton; best bloom, Mrs Musgrove. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting closed with the passing of a hearty vote of thanks to Miss Johnston. Mrs Smith presented her with a bouquet of spring flowers.
