CARD PARTY IN AID OF HOME OF COMPASSION. (“Times-Age” Special.) A successful card party in aid of the Home of Compassion was held in the Red Cross Society’s rooms yesterday afternoon. The first prize at cards was won by Miss Card and the consolation by Mrs McKenna. The cooking competitions resulted: — Tea: Mesdames Charles and McKenna; sponges, Mesdames Wilson and Taylor; biscuits, Mrs Wakely; eggs, Mrs A. W. Edwards. Mrs Lowell wishes to thank the following ladies for gifts:—-Misses Card and Eva Card, Mesdames Lawson, Sharp, Rowles, Ness, D. Kelly, Shepherd, Jeffrey, Elliot, Habib, L. Barton, Sim and H. Cundy. A boy 2 years of age, the son of Mr ana Mrs Salisbury, of Kahutara, suffered a painful injury as the result of having hot water spilt on his head. He was taken to Dr. Sharp, and after having received attention was able to return home. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Fawcett, Lower Hutt, are the guests of Mrs C. Corlet, Pahautea. A “parcel evening” is to be held in the Kaiwaiwai Hall on Saturday evening in honour of Miss Dorothy Chisholm, whose marriage to Mr Jack Fenwick will take place shortly. Euchre Tournament. At the Fire Brigade euchre tournament the winners were: —Ladies: Mrs Habib and Mrs F. O’Neale (equal), 1. Men: Mr N. Burt, 1; Mrs W. Fluty, 2.
