TIRAUMEA
WOMEN’S DIVISION BIRTHDAY dance. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Tiraumea branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union held its birthday dance on Friday and the proceeds will be used for providing parcels for local soldiers serving overseas. There was a very big attendance, visitors being present from Pongaroa, Rakanui, Alfredton, Eketahuna and Masterton. A number of very well acted items were given between the dances by members and the school children. Songs were contributed by Mesdames L Laing, Savage and Hansen. The birthday cake was raffled, the winner being Mr L. Curtis. The Lucky Spot waltz was won by Mrs Laing and Mr I. Hay, and the Monte Carlo dance by Miss E. Devery and Mr Powell. At the supper adjournment Mr S. Raleigh congratulated the members on their effort and called on Mrs Harman (president) who presented Mrs Wallis with the trophy for the best bloom for the year. A home-made supper was handed around and dancing’ continued until the early hours of the morning. The music was supplied by Mrs Houlbrooke, Mr Rowden and Mr Thompson. Extras were played by Mrs Welsh and Mr Barker. Mr Duncan made a capable M.C. Personal Items. Messrs C. and W. Geange, Carterton. who spent a few days in the district, have returned home. Misses E. Devery, Kathleen and Edna Wallis, spent the weekend at the latter’s home. Football. A team of Pongaroa schoolboys visited Tiraumea on Saturday when seven-a-side football games were played, Tiraumea being the winners. The games were controlled by Mr F. Herbert.
