» NATIONAL PARTY SOCIAL GATHERING LAST NIGHT. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Eketahuna branch of the New Zealand National. Party held a social gathering and dance in the Anglican Sunday School Hall last evening. The meeting was well, attended by National Party supporters. The National candidate for the Masterton Electorate, Mr G. H. Mackley, C.M.G., addressed the gathering. Much appreciated items were rendered by Mrs Robert Miller, Mr W. Iggulden and Master Geo. Morris. Miss Muriel Smith,,and Mr Keith Marenzi provided the dance music. After the address by Mr Mackley the following resolution was proposed and carried unanimously: “That this meeting of members of the Eketahuna branch of the New Zealand National Party is of opinion that in the event of the Government failing to establish a National Government truly representative of both sides of political thought as asked for by the leader of the Opposition that he press for a general election on the due date and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr S. G. Holland, leader of the Opposition, for his information and appropriate action.”
RETURNED SOLDIERS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Eketa- 1 huna Returned Soldiers’ Association executive committee was held last evening. The president, Mr A. H. Herbert, presided and there was also present Messrs Tredray, W. Hornblow, J. McLaughlin, S. Daniel, L. Russell, T. Hancock and M. Shale (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr L. Christie. A letter of appreciation was received from the Eketahuna branch -of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union for the birthday greetings extended by the Returned Soldiers' Association. It was decided to circularise all dairy factories in the district in connection with the scheme for rearing calves for free distribution to returned soldiers of this war when being settled on farms. Mr Shale reported on a matter discussed at a meeting of the local. Rehabilitation Committee which comprised the Mayor, Mr W. Olsen (chairman), Messrs J. B. Carruthers, L. Christie (treasurer), R. J. Kebbell, T. Hancock and M. Shale (interim secretary). Considerable discussion ensued concerning the formation of the new Association. and it was decided that its progress be watched.
