WAR WORK

FIRST AID AND A.R.P. NURSING DIVISION ACTIVITIES. SUCCESSFUL PUPILS. First Aid and Air Raid Precautions classes have been conducted by the St. John Ambulance Nursing Division for members of the Red Cross Voluntary Aid Transport Detachment formed about six months ago. Dr. N. H. Prior was lecturer for the First Aid classes and Miss Van Staveren, Wellington. lectured for, the A.R.P. classes. Several members of the detachment had already won their First Aid certificates and the 'following received them this week: Misses E. Harding, M. McGregor, V. Poole, K. Cruickshank, K. Cameron, J. Hosking, Robina Thompson, D. Madely, and K. Te Tau. The following were successful in the recent A.R.P. examination held recently: Red Cross Transport Detachment, K. Cruickshank, E. Johnston, M. McGregor, M. Mawley, 11. Gill, J. Hosking. D. Maxwell, D. Madely. V. Rishworth, C. Maunsell, E. Wrigley, J. McKenzie, May Hopkins; St. John Ambulance Nursing Division. L. Whitehouse, A. Tregurther, O. Clemas, J. Gray, M. Spedy, L. Thompson, C. Wilson, M. Cooper, N. Allan. Good progress is being made with the military and convoy drill under Lieutenant Wales. The motor mechanic instructors are Messrs Harcombe, Fantham. Weston, and Tatton. The instructors have given a good deal of their time to the work. Miss K. Cruickshank is detachment leader and member of the Transport Executive. Mrs H. E. Pither, president of the St. John Ambulance, is also a member of the executive. Mr Norman Lee is also a member. The St. John Nursing Division invite all ladies to attend Home Nursing classes on Thursday afternoons at 2.30 o'clock in the Lecture Room, Municipal Buildings.
