PERSONAL ITEMS VISITORS TO THE DISTRICT. f (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr and Mrs Max Maddison, of Hastings, are the guests of Mr and Mrs Arthur Haigh. Mrs F. Wise, of Wellington, is staying with Mrs J. Robb, East Street. Mrs Till, of Masterton, is the guest of Mrs Eric Galyer, Battersea. Mrs J. W. Barnard, of Day’s Bay, was a visitor to Greytown yesterday. Miss B. Tait, of Kelburn. is the guest of Mrs A. I-I. Bull, Udy Street. Miss D. Tully left today for Waipawa. Miss Betty Shedden is spending the weekend in Wellington. There was considerable excitement yesterday at the diamond wedding celebrations of Mr and Mrs Edward Bentley when the telegraph messenger arrived in the afternoon with a telegram of congratulation and best wishes from their Majesties the King and Queen. Immediately all those assembled, including the Greytown correspondent of the “Times-Age” toasted the health of their Majesties. The Governor-General and Lady Newall sent a telegram of congratulation. Congratulatory messages were also received from the Acting-Prime Minister (Mr Nash), the member for the district (Mr Ben. Roberts), the Mayor and Mayoress <Mr and Mrs A. W. Horton), and scores of other well wishers in other parts of New Zealand.

Day of Prayer.

In response to the request of the King that Sunday, September 7 be observed throughout the' Empire as a special day of prayer, a united service will be held in the Town Hall, Greytown, at 2 p.m. There will be a parade of the Home Guard and of the Girl Guides and Boy Scouts. All citizens of Greytown and district are invited to make this service worthy of the occasion. The offering, less expenses, will be given to the Greytown Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society.
