a. COUNTY COUNCIL MONEY RAISED TO MEET FLOOD DAMAGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council was held yesterday when there were present Councillors J. B. Carruthers (chair), P. Davies, F. M. Goggin, C. Davie. J. P. Petersen, H. N. Kebbell. R. W. Kebbell, G. Houlbrooke. T. Hancock and A. J. Perry. ' Leave of, absence was granted to Cr C. T. Richardson. Accounts amounting to £2914 16s 5d were passed lor payment. The necessary resolution in respect to the raising of £l4OO by way of overdraft for flood damage was passed. A circular letter was received from Lady Newall, chairwoman of the Lady Galway Guild, soliciting further contributions of warm winter clothing to relieve distress in England. Crs J. B. Carruthers, R. W. Kebbell . and T. Hancock were appointed the county representatives on the Eketahuna Soldiers’ Rehabilitation Committee. Two applications for loans under the Rural Housing Scheme were received. The treasurer, Mr W. N. Richardson, reported on the county’s finances as follows: —County Fund account, dr balance £7455 13s; less Imprest account, £704 14s 2d; nett debit balance, £7350 18s Id. Bridge Fund account, cr £349 19s sd; Bridges Loan account £BOOO, cr £3790 9s 3d; Worker’s Dwelling loan £1550 account, cr £8 2s 3d. Receipts for the past month totalled £478. In connection with the damage done by the recent flood, the authority to borrow by way of overdraft has just come to hand. It is for an amount of £l4OO, which is in accordance with the council’s scheme of finance. The details of the authority are: Term of overdraft is maximum of 7 years; rate of interest, 4 per cent; repayments of not less than £2OO per annum. The Bank has consented to take up the overdraft on these terms. Claims have been lodged to date for the payment 4 of subsidies amounting to £2339 covering maintenance and flood damage works. Personal Items. Mrs H. Price (Waipawa) is the guest of Mrs S. Daniel, High Street. - Mrs W. Butcher (Palmerston North) is visiting Mrs D. Butcher, Haswell Street. Maurice Parsons, son of Mr and Mrs C. H. Parsons, Macara Street, is an inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital where he underwent an operation for appendicitis on Thursday night. He is progressing satisfactorily.
