CLOTHES CATCH ALIGHT

* YOUNG WOMAN’S DEATH. TRAGEDY AT ROTORUA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ROTORUA, September 3. Severe burns to the body, face, and hands, which later proved fatal, were received by a young married woman when her clothing caught alight as she was standing with her back to a fire. She was Mrs Rosie Belvie, aged 18, wife of Mr Jack Belvie, Mourea, a millhand employed by the Rotoiti Timber Company. Mr Belvie suffered burns to both hands in his endeavours to extinguish the flames. In evidence at the inquest today he said there had been a large fire in the stove at about 5 p.m. He rushed inside when he heard his wife’s screams, to find her clothing a mass of flames. In giving a verdict that death was caused by the burns, the Coroner. Mr W. L. Richards, commended Mr Belvie for his prompt action in attempting to suppress the flames.
