GUN CLUB
CLAY BIRD MATCHES CONTESTS AT WAINGAWA. GOOD MARKSMANSHIP DISPLAYED. A series of clay bird matches were fired on the Wairarapa Gun Club’s grounds, Norfolk Road, Waingawa, at the weekend. The conditions were perfect for shooting and good marksmanship was displayed. Visitors were present from Paraparaumu and were delighted with the grounds and the appointments generally, which they considered equal to the best in New Zealand for gun club shooting. Fifteen competitors were present. The results were as under: — Five Bird Eye-op’ener: W. D. Moroney, C. E. Grey, R. Williams, S. M. Baird, H. J. Bannister, F. E. Allen and C. Caldwell (Paraparaumu Gun Club) each broke 4 birds. B Grade Aggregate, 15 birds: G. A. Vincent 15, T. A. Brown 13, H. J. Bannister 12, C. Caldwell (Paraparaumu) 12, S. M. Baird (Paraparaumu) 11, W. H. Mowbray (Paraparaumu) 11, F. Yule 11, F. E. Allen 10, A. Teal 9. In the A Grade Sweepstake, shot in conjunction with the B Grade Aggregate, R. Williams broke the possible of 15 birds, and C. E. Grey’broke 12. Ten Bird. Sweepstake: C. E. Grey 9, L. Rayner, R. Williams, A. McKay, T. A. Brown, C. Caldwell (Paraparaumu) and W. H. Mowbray (Paraparaumu) 8 each, H. J. Bannister 7, D. Howell (Paraparaumu) 6. Double Rise Sweepstake, 5 pairs: H. J. Bannister 8, C. E. Grey, R. Williams and L. Rayner 7 each, G. A. Vincent 5 F. Yule, W. H. Mowbray and T. A. Brown 4 each. Gimcrack Sweepstake, 5 birds: H. J. Bannister, F. E. Allen and C. E. Grey each broke the 5 birds. In the shoot off Bannister won on the eleventh bird, Grey dropping out on his seventh bird and Allen on his tenth. '
