Mr A. Curry, chief radio announcer at Station 3YA, Christchurch, is visiting Masterton, where he formerly resided. Mr W. Wrightson, accountant of the Bank, of Australasia for the past nine years, has been appointed manager of the bank’s Gisborne branch. The King has approved of the retention of the title of Honourable by Mr W. Lee Martin, who was more than three years a member of the Executive Council, according to a Gazette notice. Mr D. B. Curry, of Masterton, is to attend a class of instruction at the Army Training School, Trentham, in connection with the organisation of motor transport. Mr and Mrs A. McMahon, Johnsonville, have been advised that their youngest son, Sergeant Pilot Owen Bernard McMahon, was killed on August 25, during air operations. He was educated at the Johnsonville public school, Wellington Technical College, and Victoria University College. He was an instructox' on the staff of the International Correspondence School in Wellington, and left New Zealand two and a half years ago. The death has occurred in Dannevirke of Mi’ Henry George Lee, who lived in Dannevirke for the past 11 years. Born in Bath, England, in 1868, Mr Lee was educated at Clarendon College. He took an active part in golf, cricket and tennis in the west of England. He travelled extensively, making his first trip to New Zealand in 1910, and later returning to settle in this country. He lived in Dunedin before settling in Dannevirke. Mr Lee was well known in Hawke’s Bay chess circles. Mr Robert W. Collins, of Kilbirnie, died on Tuesday in a private hospital, at the age of 64 years. He was the eldest son of the late Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G., and the brother of Mr Cyril Collins, Auditor-General. He was on the staff of the Lands and Survey Department at the time of the South African War, and, gaining a commission, he went to Africa as a lieutenant in the 4th Reinforcements. On his return to New Zealand he rejoined the Lands and Survey Department as draughtsman, and retired in 1939 after 45 years’ service. Army appointments gazetted this week include: Majoi’ (temporary lieu-tenant-colonel) H. G. Carruth relinquishes the command of the 2nd New Zealand Divisional Cavalry Regiment, and is posted to the Composite Training Depot; Major A. J. Nicoll, 2nd New Zealand Divisional Cavalry Regiment, is appointed to command the regiment and granted the temporary rank of lieu-tenant-colonel; Captain J. B. White, is granted the temporary rank of major while holding the appointment of deputy assistant adjutant-general, 2nd New Zealand Division.
