GREYTOWN

WOMEN’S DIVISION BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Women’s Division of the Farmers Union was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon.’ Mrs Beu presided over a good attendance of members. Members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy to Mrs S. Barcham, who had recently suffered a bereavement. Sympathy was extended to Mrs H. Kidd in her illness. Members were notified of an electric cooking demonstration to be held on September 11. Khaki wool was distributed among members for knitting into soldiers' comforts. Wool foi’ merchant navy comforts was also distributed. Miss Cox-Johnston's visit, it was stated, had been postponed until early next year. It was hoped that members would take the opportunity of attending the lectures offered. A letter was received from the secretary (Mr A. Nisbet) of the R.S.A., Greytown, thanking the Women's Division for the luncheon provided to returned men on Anzac Day. The annual appeal for lepers on Makogai Island was read. All members were asked to once again bring small gifts of fancy work, clothing, material, toys, beads, etc., for Christmas cheer. A new member, Mrs Burke, of Morison’s Bush, was welcomed. Mrs Maitland, of Carterton, provincial secretary, was present, also Mrs Jennings, president of the Fraser Road branch, Hawera. Mrs Jennings gave a short resume of the activities of her branch. Mrs McAnulty, president of the Kaiparoro Institute, demonstrated wool spinning. Mrs McAnulty was a spinner at the Wellington Exhibition. The members showed keen and appreciative interest in the demonstration. Mrs McAnulty was wearing a brown knitted woollen costume she had knitted from wool spun on her own spinning wheel. She also had on exhibition woollen rugs, shawls, jumpers, cardigans, etc., similarly made. Mrs Beu thanked Mrs McAnulty for her demonstration. Mrs McAnulty was presented with a posy of violets and daphne. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames A. Haigh, Benseman, Balfour and Miss Eager. Personal. Mrs Jennings, of Hawera, is visiting Greytown. Miss Dulcie Richards has returned from Christchurch. Mrs Willis and her son, of Napier, are visiting Mr and Mrs E. Richards. McMaster Street. Mr and Mrs G. Green, of Wairoa, are the guests of Mrs A. Finn, Main Street. Mr and Mrs L. ‘Duff, after spending a holiday at Greytown, left yesterday for Fox ton.
