GIFT CIGARETTES
DISPATCH TO OVERSEAS FORCES. i PRECAUTIONS AGAINST SALE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Arrangements are being made to have packets of cigarettes sent, on behalf of the people of the Dominion, by the National Patriotic Fund Board, to the New Zealand Forces overseas. The packets will be over-printed with the words “Patriotic Issue,’’ instead of a gift announcement being placed inside the packets. This step is being taken with a view to preventing a recurrence of sales of .gift cigarettes and is in line with the recommendation made recently by the Overseas Commissioner, Lieut. Colonel Waite. Lieut.-Colonel Waite outlined several difficulties that had been met Avith in connection with gift cigarettes, but considered that reports of their sale had been grossly exaggerated. Instead of discontinuing gift issues because of difficulties, he said, an endeavour should be made to make, the scheme perfect.
