Soldiers Invalided Home. After service in Pacific Islands, 10 members of the Expeditionary Force have been invalided back to New Zealand and have arrived at Auckland. Mastertonians Successful. At the Wellington musical competitions at Wellington yesterday Jill Messenger and Betty Barnes (Masterton) won the piano duet for competitors under 12 years of age. Five Persons Injured. Five members of the one family were injured when their car struck a telephone pole at Milne’s Hill, on the Howick Road, at 3 o’clock on Sunday afternoon. All were taken to the Auckland Hospital, but only one was admitted. Severe head injuries and concussion were suffered by Mrs Letitia Phyllis Brough, aged 67, Morningside, mother of the driver, Mr T. Brough. She is in a serious condition. The other members of the party now in hospital are Mr Thomas Brough, Mrs T. Brough, [Morningside, and Peter Brough, her son. *
Intersection Rule. A judgment in favour of a motor driver who assumed that the driver of another car would observe the righthand rule even though the first driver intended to turn to the right in the intersection was given by Mr Goulding. S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday. Film Display. A reminder is given of the fullmuster turnout of the Masterton E.P.S. units called for tonight at 7 o’clock. The various sections of the E.P.S. will assemble at the following points: Supply, F.C.D.C. yard; transport, County Council yard; medical and health, Masterton Club; law and order, Defence Hall; works, Borough Council yards, Hope Street; communications, P. and T. stores yard, Lincoln Road; fire, corner Essex and Chapel streets; accommodation and evacuation, Chapel Street; publicity and information, Courthouse, Dixon Street; finance and records, County Council Office. Armlets are to be worn. Besides the E.P.S., the Home Guard, Women’s Emergency Corps, V.A.D’s and the St John Ambulance will attend a screening of home defence films at the Opera House, commencing at 7.30 o’clock.
