MONEY FOR THE WAR CHEST.
WITH just a week to go before the lists are closed, well, over y half of the War Loan of £10,000,000— approximately £5,600,000 as the position stood when the. Finance Minister (Mr Nash) spoke, on. the subject last evening—remains to be found. Nothing has ever been better justified than the appeal made to those with funds at disposal to invest them in the War Loan. A means is thus offered of giving! direct and indispensable support to the members of our fighting forces and a refusal of this support by those who have the means of giving it evidently, to say the least, would not be creditable. It is just as much a duty of good citizenship for those able to do so to respond to this financial appeal as it is for fit men to render combatant service. The terms of investment and rates of interest offered appear to give no ground for complaint. Li any case it is possible to agree unreservedly with the Finance Minister that no sacrifice is being asked of investors that can compare with the sacrifice asked of the members of our fighting services. The interests and the safety of the Dominion demand a. quickened and enlarged response to the war loan appeal in the days that remain available.
