TROUT YEARLINGS

LIBERATION IN WAIRARAPA RIVERS.

Twenty thousand brown trout yearlings have been liberated in Wairarapa rivers by local anglers. The yearlings were raised in the ponds established at the Masterton Hatcheries by Wairarapa fishing enthusiasts, with a view to improving fishing in the district. Although the average length of the yearlings ranged from six to eight inches, some of them were as long as fourteen inches. They have been liberated in the Ruamahanga, Waingawa and Kopuaranga rivers. There are about a million fry in the Hatcheries this year awaiting liberation, a task that has been held up by the wet weather.
