EKETAHUNA
RETURNED SOLDIERS MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Returned Soldiers’ Association Executive was held on Wednesday night. Mr A. B. Fordyce occupied the chair and also present were Messrs M. Shale (secretary), W. Hornblow, C. McLaughlin, L. Russell, A. Chambers, T. Hancock, L. Christie, S. Daniel and C. Cooper. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. H. Herbert and T. Tredray. Mr M. Clarkson, an .executive member, tendered his resignation from the committee, having left the district. The resignation was accepted with regret. Mr Fordyce gave a very interesting report of the re-union held in Masterton on the occasion of the visit of the Hon. W. Perry.
Mr Shale was appointed the R.S.A. representative to the Eketahuna Rehabilitation Committee.
Accounts passed for payment amounted to £4 13s 9d.
SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED ENJOYABLE GATHERINGS. Last night the Odd Fellows’ Hall was packed when a dance was tendered to Signaller K. Fauvel and Gunner C. P. Doney. Music for the dancing was provided by Marenzi’s Orchestra and the duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr V. Wimsett.
The Mayor, Mr W. Olsen, on behalf of the citizens, presented each guest with a gold wristlet watch. In doing so he referred to the many excellent personal qualities of the guests of honour. Musical honours were accorded the recipients who briefly returned thanks.
Presentations of cigarettes were made to other soldiers present, and Gunner W. Oldham returned thanks on behalf of the recipients. The supper arrangements were in the hands of the Eketahuna Ladies’ Committee who are to be congratulated on their efforts.
On Wednesday evening the residents of Rongokokako and visitors from the surrounding districts met at the hall to entertain Driver E. Taylor. Dancingproved enjoyable to excellent music provided by Drysdale’s Band. Mr J. Payne was M.C.
During the supper interval, Mr F. M. Goggin, chairman of the Patriotic Committee, presented Driver Taylor with a well-filled wallet. The guest was accorded musical honours, after which he briefly replied. Mrs Taylor, mother of the guest, was presented with a lovely bouquet by Mrs R. Littler, on behalf of the Rongokokako Women’s Institute, and Mr Taylor with a buttonhole by Miss U. Payne. The ladies of the district provided supper after which dancing was resumed.
