MARTINBOROUGH
GIRL GUIDES ANNUAL MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the Girl Guide Company, Mrs H. L. Griffiths presided over a good attendance of parents and members of the Guide and Brownie companies.
A motion of sympathy with the family of the late Lula Kain, a Guide and patrol-leader, was passed. Feeling reference was made to the late Mrs E. C. Jolly, one of the foundation members, and it was resolved to record her services in the minutes of the company. The annual reports of both companies were read and adopted. Votes of thanks were passed to the leaders, Misses O. Nicol, E. Grant and T. Blundell, for their services. The following were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mrs Griffiths; vice-presidents. Mesdames Blundell and Caseley; secretary, Mrs Knell; assistant secretary, Mrs Chapman; committee, Mesdames Kershaw, Pain. Blundell, Tyler, Hewitt, W. B. Martin. Sadd, D. Cameron, Mason, Caseley. and Miss M. C. Martin; delegates, Mesdames Griffiths, Kershaw, Blundell, Sadd and W. B. Martin.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. The monthly meeting of the Martinborough 'District High School Committee was held last night, there being present Messrs E. C. Sadd. K. Arthur. R. P. George, G. P. Cotter, and F. B. Wright. Correspondence was read from the Wellington Education Board confirming Mr Meiklejohn’s appointment to the District High School. Dissatisfaction was expressed at the constant changes in the school staff, and it was resolved to protest to the board in this connection. Messrs George and Sadd were appointed a visiting committee for the month. Mr Blathwayt was elected to a vacancy on the committee. HAPPINESS CLUB EUCHRE TOURNEY. The members of the Happiness Club held a euchre tourney last night when there were about forty players present. The prizes were won as follows: Ladies. Mrs Benton 1, Mrs McCardle 2. Men: Mr L. Boyd 1, Mr T. McKinley 2. The consolation prizes were won by Miss Fenwick and Mr H. Houghton. Golf. The best cards handed in by lady members of the Martinborough Golf Club in connection with the last competition were: Mrs Charles, 42-11-31; Miss Harvey, 42-7-35: Miss Baker. 44-8-36.
