SERGEANT PILOT W. H. SWAIN.
FORMER MASTERTON RESIDENT.
Sergeant Pilot W. H. Swain, of the R.A.F., a son of Mr and Mrs A. W. Swain, of 20 Third Street, Masterton, is now reported to have lost his life while on active service on April 22, 1941. He had previously been reported missing.

He was a member of the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club and learnt to fly as a pupil of that club. Following the outbreak of the war he joined up with the Royal New Zealand Air Force in February, 1940, proceeding to England in September of the same year. Ever since he had been engaged in bombing operations and was captain of the bomber in which he lost his life.
The sympathy of many friends will be extended to the bereaved relatives.
